The Powell River Regional Area has a total of 1,260,160 acres from Saltery Bay to Sarah Point including Texada, Savary, Lasqueti,
Hernando and Harwood Islands. The municipality of Powell River covers a
total of 10,212 acres which is made up of 7,143 acres of land and
3,069 acres of fresh water.
The area has a moderate
average rainfall of between 101 and 120 centimeters (45-47 inches)
with 1,400 to 1,900 hours of annual sunshine. The year round
temperature average is 9° C (50° F). In the summer the temperatures
vary from 18 - 30° C (65 - 90° F). The safety and security of a small

The community is a world-renowned 'hot spot' for
scuba diving with 19 dive sites in the immediate vicinity. The world's
finest underwater statue, a 3 metre bronze mermaid, is located in 30
metres of water at Saltery Bay Provincial Park. The area has some of
the largest Wolf Eel and Octopus in the world.
Canoeing may also be enjoyed on the quiet lakes of Powell River or you
can take in the Powell Forest Canoe Route Circuit. Ocean canoeing and
kayaking is very popular in Jervis Inlet, the Copeland Islands Marine
Park, the Malaspina Inlet, Okeover Arm, and Desolation Sound Marine
Park.
Miles of hiking trails lead to beautiful lookouts, waterfalls and
peaceful lakes which can be viewed along the 180 km Sunshine Coast
Trail and numerous recreational areas can be reached by logging roads,
owned by the logging companies. Public access is limited on some
gravel roads when the forestry companies are not logging.
Logging Roads are open Daily from 6 PM to 5 AM and on weekends and
holidays.
For nature lovers and sightseers, Powell River has many parks,
view points and beaches to explore, and the hiking club will help you
take advantage of the many beautiful trails. Bird watching is also
unprecedented.
